The US has already flown over 80,000 Afghans and Americans from Afghanistan looking to get away from the Taliban that has taken over the country. US President Joe Biden warned again the need for the US to be done and leave the war-torn country due to the possibility of a terrorist attack.
Speaking to the press Tuesday from the White House, Biden said that every day that the US remains to be on the ground at this time is another day that enemies such as ISIS-K are looking to target the airport in Kabul and attack not just the US but also its allied forces and civilians that are looking to leave. “We are currently on pace to finish by August the 31st,” said the US leader. “The sooner we finish, the better. Each day of operations bring added risk to our troops.”
Biden was subject to a lot of criticism from both Republicans and Democrats regarding the withdrawal. The US leader has since defended his decision to withdraw the US from the 20-year conflict that started under George W. Bush following the 9/11 attacks. Despite the criticism from many pundits in the media, many veterans, including those who served in Afghanistan, have voiced their support for Biden.
Biden also made a swipe towards disgraced former President Donald Trump while also calm fears from right-wing figures regarding Afghans and Americans who would enter the country.
“We’re conducting thorough security screenings in the intermediary stops they’re making for everyone who is not a US citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States,” said the US leader.
Meanwhile, Democratic strategist James Carville recently called out the media’s coverage of the situation in Afghanistan so far. Speaking to Brian Williams, Carville said that there was no good way to leave war, adding that the US had already lost the war 15 years ago.
“We lost this war 15 years ago. All Joe Biden is doing is telling us what time it is and the hysterical and stupid coverage in the mainstream press has been awful,” said Carville, who noted that Biden was against the war in the first place, even during the time he was vice president.
