US President Joe Biden welcomed back his former boss, President Barack Obama, to the White House this week. The former president returned to the White House to mark the anniversary of the landmark Affordable Care Act legislation.
Obama returned to the White House Tuesday to celebrate the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act with Biden and his vice president Kamala Harris. The former president started his remarks by jokingly referring to Biden as his “vice president” in the East Room, where many allies who now serve in Cabinet positions, Congress, or top posts in the administration were in attendance.
Both Obama and Biden announced the steps that the administration is taking to make healthcare more affordable for the American public. The steps include closing a loophole that would prevent millions of Americans from qualifying for subsidies.
“It feels like the good old days,” said Biden of his predecessor, whom he served as vice president for two terms.
Obama and Biden also viewed the event touting the anniversary of the ACA as a success. The former president’s visit to the White House will not be the last as Obama is set to return for the formal unveiling of his official presidential portrait – a rite of passage that was derailed during the Trump presidency and was delayed during the first year of the Biden administration due to the pandemic.
Aside from hosting his former boss, Biden, along with first lady Dr. Jill Biden, will be hosting the wedding reception for their eldest grandchild Naomi Biden at the White House. This will mark the first time the White House was used as a wedding reception for a member of the presidential family in 14 years.
Dr. Biden’s office made the announcement Monday through a statement by her communications director Elizabeth Alexander. The date for Ms. Biden’s reception is set for November 19, but the location of the ceremony was not revealed.
Naomi Biden is the daughter of Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, with his first wife, Kathleen Buhle.
The last time a presidential family held a wedding reception was in June of 2008, for Jenna Bush, the daughter of George W. Bush.
