The drinks to avoid if you want to quit smoking

Smoking is one of the biggest causes of death in the world as the habit leads to developing serious illnesses later on. Fortunately, it is not too late to kick the habit for good, and one of the tips into breaking the habit is to avoid certain kinds of drinks.

Express reports that avoiding certain drinks can help in quitting smoking. This is because the flavor of the cigarettes can either be enhanced or affected due to the food or drinks that are taken with it, according to a study. As far as drinks are concerned, alcoholic beverages, coffee, tea, including sodas, are the drinks to avoid if you want to quit smoking. Experts advise sticking to water or juice. This is because for some people, making changes in their drinks can affect their need to have a cigarette.

When it comes to food, meats are shown to enhance the flavor of cigarettes while cheese, vegetables, and fruit make them taste bad. They also advise making minor routine changes during or after mealtimes. “Getting up and doing the dishes right away or settling down in a room where you don’t smoke may help.”

Identifying the times the need to smoke a cigarette may also help in quitting the habit. A craving can last for five minutes, so it is important to think of things to do other than smoking during that five-minute duration. It is also worth noting that smoking, as well as heavy drinking, can increase the risk of mouth cancer by up to 38 percent.

Because it is the time where new year resolutions are made, The Sun also recommends making mini-resolutions as those are more achievable and people are more likely to stick to them, according to experts. According to psychiatrist Dr. Pam Spurr, “Sweeping resolutions are easy to dump because people feel like failures when they cannot rise to the demands. Whereas micro-resolutions are far more likely to work as people get a sense of satisfaction moving forward one step at a time.”

Instead of completely breaking the habit all at once, it is more of gradual ease into breaking it. If the resolution is not to binge drink anymore, experts advise a drink limit or a drink-free day of the week. If the resolution is to find time to relax, experts advise breaking that time into 10-minute or five-minute intervals between work.
