U.S. President Donald Trump declared on Monday evening that Israel and Iran have agreed to a "Complete and Total CEASEFIRE" following what he called “THE 12 DAY WAR.” The announcement, posted on Truth Social, outlined a phased ceasefire set to begin approximately six hours after the statement, once both sides complete their ongoing military operations.
Under the agreement, Iran will initiate a 12-hour ceasefire, after which Israel will join in, leading to a full cessation of hostilities at the 24-hour mark. Trump emphasized that each side must remain "peaceful and respectful" during the other's ceasefire window.
The ceasefire comes days after U.S. forces bombed three Iranian nuclear sites with bunker-buster bombs, targeting underground facilities. Trump claimed the strikes “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities and praised both nations for having the “stamina, courage, and intelligence” to end a conflict that he warned could have destabilized the Middle East for years.
Tehran has reportedly agreed to the ceasefire, according to a senior Iranian official cited by Reuters. However, no official confirmation has been issued by either Iran or Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously stated the country was close to achieving its objectives, primarily targeting Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Despite the announcement, media reports indicate that fighting was ongoing as both sides continued final operations. Trump suggested that the ceasefire could “last forever,” though skepticism remains.
Markets reacted swiftly, with oil prices dropping and U.S. stock futures climbing between 0.5% and 0.8%, reflecting improved investor sentiment amid hopes of regional stability.
This ceasefire marks a significant geopolitical moment with implications for global security, energy markets, and diplomatic relations in the Middle East.
